Ascaris lumbricoides
Ascaris lumbricoides. Fertile
egg in feces (unstained, high power). In this otherwise normal egg, the external
mamillated layer is absent and the egg is referred to as "decorticated." Its
size and shape and the thickness of the shell distinguish it from other smooth-shelled
eggs, such as those of pinworm and hookworm, that also may be found in feces.
